It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Zachary Weinberg, who died on August 10, 2025, in North York, Ontario. He leaves behind family, friends, and colleagues who will forever cherish his memory and the indelible impact he made on their lives.
Zachary’s life was defined by vision, innovation, and generosity. An active angel investor, he supported and nurtured hundreds of technology startups across North America, including Bark, Clover Health, Color Genomics, Cometeer, Headway, Hyperscience, Imagen, Plaid, Oscar, RigUp, Ro, and Spring Health, among many others. His legacy in the startup world is one of bold belief in ideas and the people behind them.
He studied economics and entrepreneurship at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and while he proudly did not graduate, his career was a testament to the power of ambition and ingenuity beyond traditional paths.
Zach went on to co-found Invite Media, which was acquired by Google in 2010, and later Flatiron Health, where he served as President and COO. Flatiron Health’s groundbreaking work in oncology technology reshaped cancer research and care, culminating in its acquisition by Roche in 2018 for $2 billion. His entrepreneurial achievements left an enduring mark on the healthcare and technology landscapes.
Yet, for all of his professional success, Zach will be remembered most for his generosity of spirit, his sharp wit, and his ability to uplift those around him. His presence filled rooms with energy, and his unwavering support for family, friends, and colleagues will be deeply missed.
A funeral service in his memory will be held on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 4:00 PM and again at 8:00 PM at 16 Av 5785. A shiva will follow on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 1:00–4:00 PM and 7:00–9:00 PM, and on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, from 1:00–4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Cornerstone To Recovery – The Ranch, Men’s Residential Addictions Facility, Kettleby, Ontario, an organization reflecting Zach’s enduring belief in helping others find new beginnings.
In the echoes of fond remembrance, may peace be found in knowing that Zachary’s influence continues to inspire. His memory lives on in the countless lives he touched, in the companies he built and supported, and in the everyday kindness and joy carried forward by those who knew him best.
